Edinburgh Airport transfers

Edinburgh Airport is the busiest airport in Scotland – maybe that’s its excuse for its poor flight delays record – in total 62.73% of all flights are delayed or cancelled.

New research from  compare the market  has analysed Civil Aviation Authority data to help travellers find the airports and airlines that will get them to their destination the quickest, allowing them to search and filter to find the best option for their next flight.

Edinburgh is the second worst airport in the UK for delays and cancellations – with 1% of its flights cancelled and average delays of 19.11 minutes.

Of 26 major airports surveyed, Edinburgh came second only to London Stansted.

In contrast, Aberdeen came out as the third best of for punctuality, with only 40.5% of flights being delayed or cancelled from the northern airport.

As Edinburgh Airport’s journey numbers for 2018 were a new Scottish record for a single year it’s not surprising that the capital is faced with its own share of delay issues as the number of customers using the airport soar.

Not only that, the airport has the odds stacked against it when it comes to its flight providers. From the data collected, the five worst airlines to fly with were TAP Portugal, Eurowings, Ryanair, Oman Air and Swiss International Airlines, all of which fly from Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Airport said:

“This is a complex issue with many contributing factors and is more complicated than the statistics provided. The way the data has been presented is certainly helpful to companies like Compare the Market who sell travel insurance but not for passengers.

“Delays from other airports and issues like the weather and aircraft maintenance will have an impact and although we play a smaller part, we are working with all of the agencies and partners involved to improve the overall experience for passengers.”

Outlander filming in Polmont

Gray Buchanan Park, Polmont

Outlander fans have a new location to visit –  Gray Buchanan Park in Polmont , the first location for filming for season four . Part of the park was turned into a graveyard, with lines of grave stones added to provide the required effect. Sam Heughan , Jamie Fraser in the smash hit TV series Outlander  , attracted a lot of attention. He was seen digging, what we presume was a grave. Despite the horrible weather many local fans spent hours watching the cast and crew work on new scenes. Some were lucky enough to meet Sam, and others reported having spotted a new four-legged cast member.

direct flights from Edinburgh Airport to Dubai

The Emirates airline is to begin direct flights from Edinburgh Airport to Dubai from October, in a move predicted to greatly increase easy access to Mid-East destinations. Phone 01324-883305 to book your taxi to the airport.

The new year-round service will launch at the same time as Etihad’s Abu Dhabi route is ditched – and is claimed set to “maintain and strengthen” access from Scotland to key Mid-East destinations and beyond.
Airport chief executive Gordon Dewar said: “The route enhances our connectivity to the Middle East and further afield as we access that long-haul network, giving us greater access and choice than ever before. “
Hubert Frach, Emirates’ divisional senior vice president, commercial operations, West, said: “We’re increasing our capacity to Scotland to meet growing demand, and by introducing a daily flight to Edinburgh, it will complement our current double daily flights between Dubai and Glasgow. “Edinburgh is a very popular leisure and business destination, and the new service will offer our customers from across our global network.
