Edinburgh Airport is the busiest airport in Scotland – maybe that’s its excuse for its poor flight delays record – in total 62.73% of all flights are delayed or cancelled.

Edinburgh is the second worst airport in the UK for delays and cancellations – with 1% of its flights cancelled and average delays of 19.11 minutes.
Of 26 major airports surveyed, Edinburgh came second only to London Stansted.
In contrast, Aberdeen came out as the third best of for punctuality, with only 40.5% of flights being delayed or cancelled from the northern airport.
As Edinburgh Airport’s journey numbers for 2018 were a new Scottish record for a single year it’s not surprising that the capital is faced with its own share of delay issues as the number of customers using the airport soar.
Not only that, the airport has the odds stacked against it when it comes to its flight providers. From the data collected, the five worst airlines to fly with were TAP Portugal, Eurowings, Ryanair, Oman Air and Swiss International Airlines, all of which fly from Edinburgh.

“This is a complex issue with many contributing factors and is more complicated than the statistics provided. The way the data has been presented is certainly helpful to companies like Compare the Market who sell travel insurance but not for passengers.
